Herts Open Studios 2016

04th September 2012
I won't be exhibiting at Herts Open Studios this year because my workshop schedule is very full but hopefully I will be back next year with new work.

I love doing the Open Studios because it gives me the chance to concentrate on developing new techniques and ideas for larger scale artwork. This all is then adapted to new workshops in the next couple of years.

It also gives me a great chance to speak to visitors about my work and get feedback on how art affect their lives.

2 years ago, when my Embroidery work at Open Studios was all about Memory and Memory loss was a particularly moving one.

I heard many personal stories and many tears were shed as the pieces resonated so deeply with some of the people who visited. Many didn't even know my inspiration for the artwork and yet they could feel enough through it to tell their stories.

My work so far this academic year has therefore been mostly with learners who have been suffering from depression, anxiety and loss.

Art is a very powerful force. It is good to have the opportunity to use it to care and heal.
